Time Lapse Overgrown Juniper Hedge Trimming

Thanks for watching! Much appreciated 💚

This LARGE Juniper Hedge poses a DILEMNA. There is a lot of green, new growth, but using a hedge trimmer to cut it back to the size and shape it was, would expose all dried brown branches and the thick trunks. It's about 20-25 feet long, should be about 5 feet wide but is more like 10 feet of floppy overgrowth. It could actually be trimmed to look like Giant Bonsai Trees, which would be fun & funky but nobody else would put up with that at the front of the house! 🤪

We are guessing this functioned as a privacy hedge, as it is between the living room and the driveway and parking area. However, the view of the mountains is beautiful, and with a wall of living room windows, I prefer the view. Not to mention, yearly maintenance annual pruning of a hedge taller than me isn't something I want to do. There aren't very many spider webs but we have seen snakes going under the hedge.

So...
Cut it back A LOT and see what grows back? That would probably take 6 months to see where new growth sprouts, since only larger branches remain. Then another year for actual green branches to start filling the gaps..

OR remove the whole thing? This would transform the whole look of the house and front yard. It is a HUGE hedge.

Well anyway, for Step 1, I cut back the area by the gate and steps (10 feet to the right of this video) and the left edge touching the roof of the carport. This allowed me to see what we were working with. There are like 6 or 8 actual trunks, with main branches going left right and forward. So, yes, as FIL pointed out, the main trunks can be yanked out with chain & tractor, and put directly onto a flatbed trailer. Removal of the entire hedge is possible at any point in this decision making process. (I think he's already decided LoL 🤪)

Step 2: I cut away the left BACK SIDE of the hedge. Since I can't do this project all at one time, I didn't want it to look horrible while I work on each section. It is at the front of the house and the first thing you see when you drive up. There is also a planter box to the right of the area in this video, so I had to leave overhanging branches to provide some shade to the growing plants.
