There is a reference to one of the most recognizable errors that was made on purpose. When Cole looks at a photograph with the words Mortal Kombat on it, he mentions that combat was spelled wrong. Well, back in 1992, the game was originally called Mortal Combat with a c, but after they realized how difficult it would be to secure that title as their own, designer Steve Ritchie threw out the idea of calling it Mortal Kombat with a k. The creator Ed Boon noticed that the misspelling of the title only helped to draw attention to the game.
