Governor Phillip went searching for Bennelong after he escaped. Phillip brought Bennelong gifts and requested a spear in return.

Bennelong told Phillip all the places he had been speared as punishment for things he had done. Governor Phillip was to meet the same fate for his wrong doings, Phillip was wounded by spear but not killed.
