Check out this unusual match up featuring a low budget '79 Ford F250 4X4 against a high budget '17 ZL1 Camaro! According to Alex the truck actually belongs to his best friend and was originally built by the two of them five or six years ago for sled pulling. In August about three weeks before the One Guys Garage 2020 event, the two best friends decided to go although the truck didn't have an engine at the time. Alex had most of the parts laying around his garage to build an engine from scratch so that's what they did. The engine is a 0.030 over 460 big block with forged pistons, stock rods, 11 to 1 compression, stock valves with some port work Alex performed, solid roller camshaft, Victor intake, full length in chassis headers, stock locked out distributor with a MSD ignition box and 4500 rpm stall torque converter. All the power is handled through a C6 automatic trans, 205 transfer case 4x4, dana 44 front axle, dana 70 rear axle, 4.56 gears, and a limited slip front diff. with a welded posi rear. The truck fared well running in the 13's and completing the 3 day event. This year for the '21 event the guys decided to take the bed off and replace it with a flat bed saving over 400lbs from the previous 5000lb weight of the truck last year. Another change was swapping out the 950 double pumper carb with a 1050 dominator carb and adding nitrous. If your wondering about the choice of the Hoosier Sprint Car dirt track tires it's because that's what they had laying around. They use them for for sled pulling when they pull on blacktop mainly because of their extremely soft compound so why not use them on the dragstrip.
The first solo pass the truck bogged off the line and the guys went back and made some carb adjustments and and on the next pass clicked off a respectable 12.21 against the 2.9 Whipple supercharged '17 ZL1 Camaro of Aladdin Garris who went on to win first place in the factory street class. All in all a very successful showing and it leaves you wondering what will they come up with at this year's event!
