This video is about what you can do to prepare for a period of economic downturn. There is a recession on its way, but with good financial management skills, you can build up the right amount of cash and weather the season unscathed.

I use the word “season” deliberately. I think of a recession as the winter in an economic cycle. There are four seasons just like in the calendar year. During spring, farmers sow seeds. As a business owner, you make investments; you grow your business; you scale.

During summer, farmers generally see the most growth in their crops. We too, see the most growth during the economic summer. This is where the markets are at their healthiest and you stand to build up the most capital.

Then autumn comes, which is a time when we need to start thinking about the coming period of economic downturn. This is where good financial management skills become crucial. Farmers take their harvest and store some away. We need to be making sure that there is enough cash to stay operational during the following economic downturn.

This means that maintaining a healthy balance sheet is critical. The most important thing is having a good cash flow. Without a proper cash flow, your business will not be able to continue operating because there won’t be enough outside cash coming in once the economic downturn hits.

Preparation is key to surviving a period of economic downturn. The businesses that are able to look ahead and build up cash will have the resources they need to stay afloat. With good financial management skills, you can ensure that you’re not one of the victims of the next recession.
