Iolo Williams and the thermal camera operator Mark Yates have a look at some of the birds that are active after dark on the shores of Brownsea Island near the coastline of Dorset. The feathered animal they focus on is the avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta), a distinctively-patterned long-beaked shorebird that feeds on aquatic invertebrates. Another bird that Iolo focuses on is the dunlin (Calidris alpina), a small wader gathering in massive flocks that also feeds in the lagoons of Brownsea Island. Back in RSPB Arne, the base of the team, Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan then look at a bird of prey that has made a remarkable comeback - white-tailed eagle (Haliaaetus albicilla). They will even show us on a life-sized prop just how big this raptor is!
