For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a stunning 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk. This true classic car screams style, sportiness and luxury. The midnight black exterior is deep in color, highlighting the array of excellent chrome trim work. The wide white walls also add to the true beauty of this nostalgic driving machine and are period correct. Looking inside the Hawk is taught red vinyl that you'd swear is high-end leather. The red vinyl wraps diligently around comfortable arm rests, seats, and door panels. The rest of the interior offers timeless styling including: sectioned headliner, gloss black painted dash, original steering wheel, and of course original gauges, switches, and badging. Options include: AM radio, hub caps, power brakes, power steering, seat belts, vinyl interior, wide white walls, bias ply tires. Under the hood is a correct, non-numbers matching, 289 CID V8 4BBL (225 HP) engine and Flight-O-Matic transmission. The Studebaker has just 65,889 actual miles and has one known restoration. Recently the Hawk has had the brakes freshened up, fuel lines replaced, gas tank cleaned and sealed, new sending unit, fuel filters, new electric fuel pump, and rear air shocks. Since the restoration, the car was garaged and kept free of harsh weather; rain, snow, hail, etc. If you are looking for a classic car that is rare, exciting and in great shape, this is a vehicle worth investing. The 1962 Studebaker Hawk comes with the original build sheet! Wikipedia- "The GT Hawk's styling was a fairly radical facelift by designer Brooks Stevens of the older Hawk shape; Stevens went after a European-inspired, clean look for the car he codenamed the "Hawk Monaco" (his prototype even had Monegasque license plates!). The hood from the older Hawk was retained, but was given a more pronounced (imitation) radiator frame to more closely resemble the cars of Mercedes-Benz, which at the time were distributed by Studebaker. The grille inside the radiator frame was patterned after the Mercedes as well. Despite the European influence, the Gran Turismo Hawk drew on American influences, too; the roofline was heavily inspired by the Ford Thunderbird, with thick C-pillars. A chrome edge running from front to rear highlighted the top of the bodywork in very similar fashion to that on the contemporary Lincoln Continental. The taillights were particularly fashioned after the Lincoln's, and the trunk lid was given a faux bright work "grille" overlay (to hide the grooves of the otherwise carryover 1956-61 lid) that resembled the Lincoln as well." There is plenty of additional information and Studebaker clubs to research and enjoy post purchase. The opportunities are endless.
