Описание к видео What are your universal rights? Philippe Sands at TEDxHousesofParliament

How far should international organizations go to defend oppressed citizens? Philippe Sands makes the case that no government should be free to abuse its citizens, that the rights of individuals supersede those of the state and that those rights must be protected.

Philippe Sands QC is Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for International Courts and Tribunals at University College London. He is a practising barrister and co-fiounder of Matrix Chambers, acting in cases before the English courts and international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
