The adventure begins on lower Harris Springs Road at first overshooting the turnoff and instead taking a left onto Prospect Springs Road. After being stopped by a private property barrier with dire warnings we retrace our steps back down Harris Springs Road to the most promising 4 Wheel Drive turnoff heading up toward La Madre Mountain. At the top of the 4 Wheel Drive road there is a trail that looks like it could go to the La Madre Mountain summit, only about 2-3 miles long. I turned around there and will return to that spot to take that trail to the La Madre Mountain summit. I estimate it will take about 5 hours to reach the summit from the intersection of lower Harris Springs Road and Kyle Canyon Road where I parked, and possibly under 3 hours for the return trip – 8 hours in all. Very beautiful views even on a cloudy day.
