(5 Mar 2022) BELLA AND GIGI HADID WALK THE RUNWAY FOR VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AT PARIS FASHION WEEK
Bella Hadid joined sister Gigi on the runway at Vivienne Westwood's ready-to-wear show Satuday (5 MARCH 2022).
Paris Jackson and designer Rick Owens were among the guests to pack the intimate venue, a club/burlesque theater in Northern Paris.
Daughter of late pop star icon Michael Jackson, the 23-year-old wore a long tulle gown with polka dots and flower prints featuring a side slit that showed off her leg.
Westwood Creative Director Andreas Kronthaler cited his love for the theater and the Commedia dell'arte, the Italian theater popular in Europe from 1500 to 1700, as the main inspiration for his fall-winter collection.
Harlequin, Columbina, Pierrot or Scaramouche: the Austrian designer paid homage to characters of the improvised Italian comedy genre with a colorful collection displayed with an accompaniment of harpsichord music.
Kronthaler explained he used leftover fabrics which meant he had to adapt his designs to the amount of fabric available.
"You have to adapt the designs and you find a way around it.  So sometimes, you know, with these flared skirts, they are all made of leftover fabrics and, you know, you put them together of course as you like.   But you know, I wanted them in one color maybe at the beginning, but there wasn't enough fabric.  They take a little bit of fabric," he said.
Headscarves and printed floor-length roomy skirts channeled a bohemian vibe favored by the peace-loving movement of the late '60s and early '70s.
"I think it's very important to speak about peace.  I mean, it's always important but at present, more than at any time.  And I wish we could form a kind of big, big peace movement around the world, you know like in the late '60, '68, you know, when the Vietnam War was, we need things.  It's very important to come together," said Kronthaler.
