Governor James J. Florio received the Research & Development Council of New Jersey's Chairman's Award for 2013. Governor Florio was selected for his many contributions to environmental sustainability, including authoring of Superfund legislation to clean up polluted sites throughout the country and helping to create the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve, a 1.1 million acre region in South Jersey. As Governor, he signed the Clean Water Enforcement Act and received the Profile in Courage Award from the Kennedy Foundation for his successful efforts to pass strict gun control laws in NJ. A founding partner of the law firm Florio Perrucci Steinhardt and Fader, Governor Florio currently chairs the firm's Environmental and Government and Regulatory Affairs groups.

Governor Florio was honored at the Council's 34th Patent Award Ceremony & Reception on November 7, 2013 at the Liberty Science Center. The Liberty Science Center is home to the nation's largest IMAX Theater, where this short original film paid tribute to Governor Florio.
