Former U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to send 10 Patriot missile interceptors to Ukraine following backlash over a paused arms shipment. Trump now claims he wasn’t responsible for the aid suspension and insists the U.S. is stepping up support as Russia escalates deadly aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities.

During a July 4 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump reportedly denied ordering a halt to military aid, blaming a Pentagon munitions review that followed U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. Despite this, sources say Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acted unilaterally to pause shipments on July 2, including vital air defense systems like Patriot missiles and precision-guided munitions.

Now, Trump says the U.S. will resume sending weapons—mainly defensive—as Ukraine pleads for support against Russia’s growing missile and drone strikes. Trump also called on Germany to sell one of its Patriot batteries to Ukraine, with costs split among U.S. and European allies. Germany, however, says it has already provided more Patriots than any NATO member—including the U.S.

The Pentagon confirmed the aid will now proceed under Trump’s direction. Meanwhile, U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg and Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov are set to meet in Rome to discuss resuming stalled support and long-term strategy.

Trump also made headlines by voicing disappointment in Vladimir Putin for failing to end the war, stating: “I’m not happy with President Putin at all. I’m disappointed, frankly, that President Putin hasn’t stopped.”
