The original manuscript does not include the word "Grand," so it is believed to have been added by the publisher. It was published in Paris, Leipzig, and London in 1834, and its popularity was due to the popularity of the waltz as a dance. In Paris in particular, the waltz was introduced to the ball at the Opera in 1834, and its status rapidly improved.
