Here’s another CPA Exam Tip: Prometric tips. What do I need to do for the Prometric location? First of all, before you head out there, map out the location. In other words, figure out where it is, how you’re going to get there. I always tell people to drive out there before the exam happens so that way you can see it. In other words, a couple of days before so you know exactly what buses, what trains or where the parking is going to be.
Remember: Murphy’s Law...anything that can happen, will happen. Also, arrive early. Get there an hour or two before the exam. When I took the exam, I got to the parking lot, I parked and then I spent about an hour and a half studying, so I could shift my mind over from traffic where I’m honking, “Hey, you!” to what I needed to know...T-T-P-B-O 75 and 90. Also, it’s imperative to bring what you need. You either need a notice to schedule and two forms of valid ID, one has to have a photo on it, the other one can be like a credit card, but they have to be the same name as the name on your notice to schedule or you will not be admitted to the exam.
So, it’s important that you bring that because if you forget that, guess what? You have to reschedule and you can’t sit for the exam. Book your exam early. Why is that? Because a lot of locations fill up, especially the last window of the year, November. We all like to procrastinate, right? I’ll put it off mañana. Guess what? November is the busiest month of the year because it all fills up, the last two weeks especially. So, be flexible. If you’re set on a certain date, be flexible on the location, if you are set on a certain location, be flexible on that date, so that way you can make sure you don’t miss out on your exam time.
The other thing, there’s a whole list of things you aren’t allowed to bring to the exam: Books, briefcase, calculator, watch, cell phone, “Hey, Rog, quick question. Can you help me out? Is it C or B?”...cigarettes, so if you’re a smoker, guess what? You can’t smoke for four hours! What does that mean? Put maybe the patch all over your bodies so you’re not freaking out from nicotine withdrawal. Ear plugs, food, beverage, hand bags, hats, visors, jewelry. I had a student with dangly ear rings, they were asked to remove them. If you wear a jacket to the exam, you have to wear the jacket the entire time. You cannot take it off and put it over your chair. If you want to get rid of the jacket you have to sign out, put it in a locker, get back in line to sign back in, and guess what?
It’s you against the clock. The clock keeps running. Plastic bags, slide rulers, umbrellas, watch. You can’t wear a watch. Why not? Because there’s a countdown clock. And I love the last item on their list: a weapon of any kind. Deferred taxes! [eee eee] Noooo! So, these were all thing you’re not allowed to bring, but again, with Prometric, plan ahead, look at their website, look at their listings of the things you can and cannot bring, and that, my friends, is my exam tip for you.
