In celebration of the newly-modernized Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, DC native Alexandra Hutchinson and her ballet partner Derek Brockington, both of the esteemed Dance Theatre of Harlem, choreographed a story of what a magical place a library can be.

Commissioned by the MLK Library Friends, Alexandra and Derek perform throughout the District's central library to the music of composer William Grant Still (1895-1978), the first African American to have a symphony performed by a professional orchestra in the United States.

On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Library is kicking off a season of reopening events at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library by hosting more than 12 hours of programs, performances and tours of the District’s flagship library. A full list of events can be found at dclibrary.org/mlkreopening

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library is located at 901 G St. NW near the Metro Center and Gallery Place Metro stations. Masks are required as part of the District’s mandate while inside the building.
