Ohmuhgosh. Worker's Comp is a really big deal. If your pet sitter gets hurt on your property, if she trips over a rug and breaks her wrist, or she slips on the stairs and breaks her neck, if she gets bitten by a dog or a cat, if she gets stung by a bee and has an allergic reaction, if any of that happens on your property, YOU are liable for her medical bills. And let's face it, you're not even going to be around to verify that the injury even happened at your house. She could have had a bad back two weeks ago, but if she says it happened at your house, you're on the hook. This is just one more of the nightmare scenarios we hear about all the time. Obviously the financial costs can be devastating, not to mention the time involved in settling law suits and insurance claims. Trust me, you need your pet sitter to be covered by Worker's Comp. You think you're sitter's been bonded and insured? Get proof. But also realize that pet sitter insurance only covers liability.
