R 1300 GS Skid Plate by AltRider: https://www.altrider.com/altrider-ski...

The sophistication of the BMW R1300 GS pushed the envelope in terms of innovation. AltRider has once again risen to the challenge by developing the industry’s first skid plate with an Energy Absorption System (EAS). The unique EAS dynamically absorbs the kinetic energy generated during impact in order to offer unrivaled protection to the engine.

The skid plate is mounted in the four corners with the midspan having three distinct zones of the Energy Absorption System. The primary function of the EAS is to absorb the kinetic energy created during an impact.

- Compatible with BMW factory bars
- Exclusive Energy Absorption System engineered to absorb impacts and dissipate the energy
- Our unique design offers the best ground clearance of any skid plate for the R 1300 GS
- The dual material rear mount design of the skid plate attaches directly to the strongest point of the frame, providing a more robust structure
- 5/32 inch (4.0 mm) hand TIG welded anodized aluminum
- The skid plate covers and protects the headers and the catalytic converter
- Oil change does not require removal of skid plate

To effectively absorb the force of an impact, the Energy Absorption System components are molded using an engineered elastomer with CNC machined stainless steel plates. This ensures when the skid plate flexes from impact, none of that energy is transferred directly to the engine. The stainless-steel plates provide a robust mount while still decoupling the impact from the engine.

Each piece of the EAS is molded to match the complex shape of the underside of the 1300’s engine. This creates a large amount of surface area to dissipate the energy of an impact. The roughly 35 square inches (89 square cm) of surface area absorbs and diffuses any impact. Additionally, the Energy Absorption System has a varying density to optimize deceleration when impacts occur. The varying density is similar to a progressive suspension, in that the larger the impact the more resistance the EAS provides. Every piece of the EAS is made of an engineered elastomer specially formulated to withstand high temperatures and harsh riding environments.

The skid plate itself is made from 5000 series aluminum to provide the ideal balance between strength and weight. It’s constructed of 5/32 inch (4.00 mm) hand TIG welded anodized aluminum. The stainless-steel rear bracket is secured to the skid plate to create the strength and performance of multiple sheets of material laminated together. This creates an incredibly strong mounting system that prevents any clocking or rotation and attaches to the strongest point of the bike. Additionally, our unique design offers the best ground clearance of any skid plate for the R 1300 GS.

The skid plate covers and protects the headers and the catalytic converter. Oil change does not require removal of skid plate. The one piece skid plate is simple to install and all stainless steel hardware is provided.
