The Tiger

To fathom the tiger’s dental weaponry at such close range and intimacy is awe inspiring and terrifying.

Revered, respected, deified Panthera Tigris is a beast of superlatives, the most spectacular, potent, deadly force on our planet.

The Tiger, not the lion, was the lord, guardian, steward of forests once spanning from Bali to the Sea of Japan, to the Amur river in the East to the Caucasus in the West.

However, 20th century man has been unkind to the great expanses of land that were once inhabited by wild things. The tiger was not spared. Denigrated, butchered for parts and disposable trophies the tiger’s numbers have been reduced to a small fraction of their once glorious expanse.

This year, programs such as Netflix’s tiger king and BBC’s tiger traffic documentaries reveal just how broken and rifted our relationship and understanding has become with ourselves and the natural world.

The tiger is a powerful and necessary ecological force, that keeps ungulates moving across the land, preventing stagnation, disease and over grazing. The tiger, keeps lands green and water clean.

In this video I illustrate the most salient features of the Siberian tiger’s skull and offer my vision for a future that is green and once again inhabited by Panthera Tigris.
