Congress Co-Chairs Les Malezer & Kirstie Parker are together in New York preparing to go into the United Nations headquarters for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014 (WCIP2014). It will be first time Indigenous Peoples will have their concerns dealt with, on this scale, by the General Assembly.
The focus will be on implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples around the world, ensuring lands, territories, oceans, seas and other resources are being returned and or looked after properly.
The WCIP2014 will eventuate in an Outcome Document to be adopted by the General Assembly; it will be an action plan. Indigenous Peoples can use this document when dealing with governments to ensure the WCIP2014 agreed upon commitments are being honoured.
