The differing role and function of Neuropsychiatrists and Neuropsychologists.

Professor Mark Walterfang explains the expert role of the neuropsychiatrist in assessing and managing the interplay between psychiatric disorders and brain disorders. This involves assessing neurodegenerative disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological dysfunction and psychological dysfunction. With particular expertise in cognition, the Neuropsychiatrist manages the overlay of mental illness and its impact on daily function. Neuropsychiatrists also understand and interpret neuroimaging and diagnose abnormalities that may be relevant to an individual's presentation and degree of impairment.
