CAPRICE RAG | Stephanie Trick

Описание к видео CAPRICE RAG | Stephanie Trick

This is my version of an early solo by James P. Johnson, “Caprice Rag,” which contributed to Johnson’s respected status as the Father of Stride Piano. It’s a barnburner! For many years, he was also affectionately referred to as the “Dean of Jazz Pianists.” Johnson made a piano roll of “Caprice Rag” in 1917 and then a sound recording of it in 1923 as well as much later on in his career, in 1943. I’ve always admired Dick Hyman’s 1975 masterful recording of “Caprice Rag” and took it as a starting point for some capricious variations of my own. I hope you enjoy it!
