On January 18th, 2026, Maoist Communist Union NYC hosted an in-person panel discussion on the murder of Renee Good and what communists can do in the age of rising domestic repression in the U.S.

Tens of thousands of armed ICE goons have descended on cities across the U.S., brutalizing immigrants and citizens alike, and even brazenly murdering some, like Renee Good. Instead of an investigation into these abuses and killings, the White House has stated that these ICE agents have “absolute immunity” and promised that they will continue to go “door to door,” a clear violation of the 4th Amendment. Those who oppose this crackdown are being labelled “domestic terrorists” and, as we see in the case of Renee Good, their murders are being justified accordingly. The implication is that honking a horn, joining a protest, or trying to drive away from ICE agents is enough to not only be labelled a terrorist, but gunned down in cold blood.

All this comes at a time when the Trump Administration is tweeting out open Nazi propaganda, promising to deport 100 million people, using lines from KKK songs, and giving speeches from podiums with fascist slogans like “One of ours; All of yours.” Elon Musk is openly celebrating Apartheid South Africa, and the co-founder of Palantir is tweeting about killing communists. These are dramatic escalations in rhetoric and repression, even from what we saw in Trump’s first term.

So, is it really happening? Is the U.S. really becoming fascist? And if so, what can we do about it?
