Since I find myself having to review the concepts personally, in this video -- which is largely unscripted -- I run thru a few of my notes on "modality." (Just in case anyone else might find some of them useful.)

For present purposes, by "modality" and "modal talk," I mean to designate a interest in concepts like "contingency," "possibility," "necessity," and the like.

Of course, "modal" simply refers to ways or "modes" or states of a thing. In education, various "learning styles" are called "modalities." Various alleged psychic-telepathic powers have been termed "alternative modes of communication," and so on. These are NOT in view in this video.

I will follow this up with discussions -- in future presentations -- of "possible worlds" and other matters in the vicinity. So, this is merely an introduction.
