I recently discovered a great workout for your diaphragm and intercostals, it really focusses on the lowest part of your ribcage, which is where you diaphragm is attached to it, so also your FRONT breathing muscles.
Right now, I alternate between the 3 exercises, one day I do #1 sitting, the next #2 and the next #1 laying down, back to #2, etc repeat that over and over again.

It's harder, I just, personally, do 5 minutes with my O2Trainer, just set a time and go, I use setting number 2 (the correct way, complete inhale and exhale), I can do about 43 reps in those 5 min. With this exercise it feels I can exhale more and inhale better? So I get about 33 reps in that time.

Try it out, this is personal, you can stick with number 1 and 2 as well, but I believe when you do this you are going to feel how great it is as well!
