In this video you'll see how to wrap an emblem on a vehicle using tools and material from Rvinyl.
The first step is to use Rapid Prep to clean the surface, spray directly on the microfiber towel and be sure to put extra focus on all the edges once the surfaces clean, go over the entire emblem with a gun to make sure all the edges are dry.
Now, using vinyl wrap film, in this case, one from 3M, remove the entire liner and set the material right in the middle evenly from top to bottom. Lock in the top of the bottom of the panel, then pull nice and firm towards the bottom and lock in the bottom section right in the middle, then stretch the material evenly towards the left and towards the right. Always be sure to lock in on the edge with a finger that's placed in application glove.
Once the material is relaxed on the main surface, area runner finger one more time on the outside edge and some of the material from our vinyl will have what's called a cap sheet. Remove this, then pick the material up from the edge and add heat. This relaxes the film. Then the material can be fed around the top edge of the main surface area towards the outside edge. In this case, it has a ninety degree drop off. That's why it's very important to add heat to relax the film, then stretch it to the bottom razor's edge.
Because it's bridging this section is very important to pick the material up, then using a tucking tool, tuck it safely, tension free to the deepest part of this area. This combination of adding heat, picking up away from the main surface area and tucking it deep into the gap will mean that the film is not overstretched.
Then heat the film one more time and this activates adhesive. It's a good tip now, once the film is set on the outside edge, to let it sit for a long time and focus on the middle edges. This will give the adhesive time to set up the finger on all the edges to make sure it's one hundred percent uniform. Click the blade so it's extra sharp. And now it's very important to relax the material so that it can go all the way to the base. You have to keep in mind that this material can't be bridged over these areas, heated and pushed in and have it hold for the long term. This is because the angle from the top of the main emblem towards the base is too steep. This puts too much pressure on the vinyl. That's why it's very important to cut the film so that it could be relaxed into the base, then cut away. So you can see here with this combination of using the talking tool to set it up and cutting at the right angle. Now you have full coverage. Then simply repeat the process.
Run a finger in an application glove to round the material, tuck it into the base with the tucking tool, then come in with a very sharp blade at the right angle and cut the excess film away. So here we're on the finger, tuck it into the base, cut the material safely away and done, this can mean a slight gap of chrome can be seen on those little tiny corners. But it also means that there's no tension and a hold for the long term. And the same steps are repeated. Tuck the material into the base, cut the excess film away. So it's all about making those nice, good, precise relief cuts ahead of time, then relaxing material to the bottom section.
So with the inside portion of the completed, click the blade one more time, so it's extra fresh and trim away the excess film. Having the right blade angle is absolutely critical because if done correctly, the tip of the blade will run nice and smooth in the gap. This will ensure a nice straight cut and there's no chance that the blade jumping off the emblem and damaging the outside area now cut away the excess film safely hollow and flat away, just in case the material wasn't properly cut away from the edge and come in right away with the talking tool and make sure that edge is one hundred percent seal.
The final step is to go over the entire emblem with heat. This activates adhesive and you can double check to make sure all the edges are sealed. Then the final step is to give it a nice wipe down to make it extra shiny. So you can see with the right tips and tricks and tools material from our vinyl, you can black out an emblem, make it custom cool and just a matter of a few minutes.
