Join us behind the scenes as we worked with NASA to carefully dismantle one of the most unique aircraft in aviation history—the *Lockheed L-300, later known as the Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO).

Only one L-300 was ever built. Originally designed as a civilian version of the C-141A Starlifter, the aircraft found new purpose in the skies when NASA transformed it into a flying infrared telescope. As the KAO, it helped uncover the rings of Uranus, detect Pluto’s atmosphere, and study Supernova 1987A.

In March 2025, the MotoArt team partnered with NASA at Moffett Field to preserve this incredible aircraft before it was scrapped. With care and precision, we saved its skin to honor its scientific legacy—and now, it's been transformed into authentic Lockheed L-300 PlaneTags.

These PlaneTags are more than collectibles — they're artifacts of discovery, crafted from a one-of-a-kind aircraft that changed how we see the universe.
