#Qanoondan and #CourtingTheLaw organized #JudgesElevationDebate at Lahore High Court on 28th August to discuss an important constitutional issue of the criteria for elevation/ appointment of judges from High Court to Supreme Court as Judiciary and legal fraternity are divided on the issue some supporting the "Seniority Principle" and other saying "Only Merit" can be the criteria for the elevation. The need for affirmative action provided by the constitution to enable females and minorities was also emphasized by the speakers.
The conference brought together Leading Constitutional Experts supporting both points of view on one panel to discuss the advantages and shortcomings of each principle in order to generate debate around the issue.
