Below The Rim: Traversing the Grand Canyon from Lipan Point to South Kaibab

Описание к видео Below The Rim: Traversing the Grand Canyon from Lipan Point to South Kaibab

My first time seeing the Grand Canyon was nothing short of exceptional. Of course, I wouldn’t be satisfied with simply viewing it from the rim. I needed to venture below the rim in order to get the full experience, and with the North Rim closed, a traditional rim to rim wasn’t going to cut it.

My PCT pal, Stickerz was section hiking the Hayduke, so we formulated a rough plan to meet at the Grand Canyon. I lightly researched a route that left the South Rim at Lipan Point, taking the Tanner Trail to the Escalante Route, to the Tonto Trail before meeting up with the South Kaibab to climb back out of the canyon, and she had secured permits weeks before her departure for the Hayduke, so we were set.

We backpacked for four days below the rim, for a total of 56.1 miles and at least 22,000 feet of elevation change and this video is a recap of that journey. It was a rigorous and rewarding hike and I anticipate its influence leading to many Grand Canyon visits in my future.
