The central theme of Currents } Conductors is exploring the relationship between acoustic and electronic sound sources and blurring the sonic line between what sound is coming from what sound source. Compositionally, the piece started as a short piano improvisation based on a central melodic theme that was then adapted to the violin. Electronically, the piece consists of a noisy drone and more reactive elements that either directly affect the sound of the violin or play along with it to alter the soundscape. The title is a reference to the idea that the currents (each sound source) are not being conducted (musically), in a traditional sense, and that, to a degree, the currents themselves have become conductors.
