Already highly dependent on international aid, the country’s economy is now imploding: many #Afghans, women for example, or former government employees, find themselves suddenly unemployed. Salaries were already going unpaid at the end of the previous regime, and now the #Taliban’s coffers are empty. After the former insurgents swept to power, the US immediately froze the Afghan central banks foregin assets, and many international development budgets were cut off too. All this leaves huge numbers of Afghan people desperate and hungry, another reason so many there are still trying to flee. FRANCE 24's Catherine Norris Trent and Romeo Langlois report.
