Al Qasr Al Ghamedh
Haunted Palace
The Palace was the dream house of Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Qasimi, a member of Ras Al Khaimah's ruling family. The building permit for the construction of the palace was issued in 1975 and it took almost 15 years to complete its work. Rumours of it, being haunted began before the construction was even complete. Skilled artisans from various countries were brought together and instructed to unleash their creativity. The painstakingly elaborate work by those artists resulted in decorative masterpieces that achieved the desired vision of Islamic architecture featuring an amazing fusion of local, Indian, Moroccan, and Persian elements. The Artists decorated its vast hallways in Moroccan tile, and adorn bedroom walls with bucolic paintings of frolicking ghazals, birds, and dusky maidens. The lighting of the palace depends primarily on natural light entering from its dome and shining onto its celestial sculptures and then onto the lower floors. The ceilings are ornamented with rare and impressive French and Belgian Chandeliers, as well as other beautiful handcrafted artworks. The main structure is clad with marble that is said to be one of the rarest - the same used in the Holy Mosque of Mecca. Such bright white marbles protect the Palace from the heat of the scorching sun. After the completion of this wonderful Palace, Sheikh Abdulaziz decided to stay in this Palace, but his close family and friends opposed him because of its artwork containing sculptures and paintings that resemble human and animal figures. However, he was a lover of beauty and art, and so he did not wish to remove all those amazing artworks which required so much cost and time. So, the Palace was abandoned for some time. Anyway, Sheikh preferred to keep the Palace as he was hoping that his close circle will eventually change their mind. The Palace remains abandoned and this led to rumours and imaginary tales of ghosts and Jinn haunting the palace. This provided the Palace with additional global fame, establishing it as one of the world's most mysterious sites, and attracting many tourists and adventurers from all over the world. Now, Mr. Tareq Ahmed Ali Al Sharhan is the owner of the Palace. After many attempts, Mr. Al Sharhan convinced the late Sheikh Abdulaziz's heirs and purchased the Palace. The new owner renovated the Palace and restored its masterpieces, to reveal to the public the legacy of the legendary Palace, where mysteries remained hidden behind closed doors for more than 30 years. In the near future, there are plans for further developments and additions such as cafes, restaurants, hotel rooms, and a horror/adventure theme park to attract even more residents and tourists.
