The deep sea is a dark, cold, otherworldly place. It's so different to our own environment that the creatures beneath seem alien.
Meet the Barreleye fish.
So strange looking that you can Barreleye believe it.
The first thing you will notice about this remarkable animal is that it is clearly open-minded.
Its transparent head allows for an extraordinary glimpse into its unique anatomy. The most striking feature of the Barreleye fish is its highly specialized eyes, located behind the black nostrils. The green barrel-shaped eyes are enclosed within the transparent dome and are specially adapted for the dark depths of the ocean. This fish is clear headed, and for good reason, as the clear dome protects the eyes from the stingers of the jellyfish-like Siphonophores.
Its ability to adapt to the extreme conditions of the deep sea makes the Barreleye fish a true marvel of nature, captivating scientists and marine enthusiasts alike.
