What is HTML?

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language

It is the standard markup language used for creating web pages

HTML describes the structure of a web page

It consists of a series of elements that instruct browsers how to display content

Elements label pieces of content, such as headings, paragraphs, links, and more

Simple HTML Document

Documents start with a declaration defining the HTML version

The html element is the root of the page

The head section contains metadata about the page

The title element sets the page title shown in browser tabs

The body section contains all visible parts of the web page, including headings, paragraphs, images, and links

Headings (h1) and paragraphs (p) define text sections

What is an HTML Element?

An element consists of a starting tag, content, and an ending tag

Some elements can be empty (like line breaks) and do not have ending tags

Most content on your webpage will be inside these elements

How Browsers Work with HTML

Browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari read HTML documents to display web pages

Browsers use tags to know how to format and show content but don’t show the tags themselves
