8K 北竜町のひまわり畑2 Sunflower field in Hokuryu-cho

北海道の北竜町の歴史は1893年(明治26年)5月、千葉県の団体42戸が入植したのが始まりとなる。
1899年(明治32年)7月、当時の雨竜村(現在の雨竜町)から行政区を分離し、雨竜村の北にあることから「北竜村」と称した。1915年(大正4年)二級町村制施行、1961年(昭和36年)町制施行、「北竜町」となった。産業としては、雨竜川他三河川流域を主として、肥沃な土地と豊かな水資源のもと、稲作を基幹作物とした農業の町である。北竜町のひまわり畑は、1979年(昭和54年)、当時の農業協同組合の職員が農業研修で訪問した旧ユーゴスラビアのひまわり畑(現在のセルビア ベオグラード空港周辺)を目にして、その風景の美しさと栽培目的での健康食品としての可能性に着目して作付けを開始したのが始まりとなり現在では、約23ヘクタール、東京ドーム5個分の広さに200万本のひまわりが咲き誇っている。

The sunflower fields in Hokuryu Town began in 1979 when an employee of the agricultural cooperative at the time visited the sunflower fields around Belgrade Airport in Serbia (then Yugoslavia) during an agricultural training program and noticed the beauty of the scenery and the possibility of cultivating sunflowers as a health food. Today, 2 million sunflowers are blooming in an area of ​​about 23 hectares.
