In Episode 1 of the final season of the Expanse the tensions of war threaten to pull the Rocinante crew apart when they make a startling discovery on an asteroid. Holden, Naomi, and Amos are grieving Alex’s loss and having a hard time adjusting to have Clarissa on board. There’s tension and the crew is tired.

Avasarala and Bobbie contend with the devastation on Earth as Marco's rocks continue to rain down. The situation on Earth is much worse than it appeared at the end of season 5, and there doesn't seem to be any easy solutions. Avasarala gets word from the Roci that they’ve located the Azure Dragon spotter ship, and has a plan to send Bobbie on a mission to secure it.

In the Belt and on the run, Drummer and her family must make a heartbreaking decision to leave Michio behind for the time being in episode 1. They’re on the run after turning on the Free Navy and there’s a substantial bounty on them and the Rocinante.

On Ceres, Marco and Filip's struggles turn inward as season 6 picks up with them in a good position with the Inners’ fleet pin downed. Nico Sanjrani warned of possible food shortages on Ceres and Rosenfeld advised him not to help. Filip is struggling and experiences a breakdown that has a tragic ending for his friend Yoan.

In the premiere episode of the sixth season we also meet Cara on Laconia. She’s a young girl who grew up on the planet and has discovered a mysterious creature she thought looked like a dog.
