Woody Allen movie Whatever Works starring Larry David

Woody Allen filmed scenes for his movies at Caffe Vivaldi, with Bullets Over Broadway in 1993 and Whatever Works in 2008 – an unprecedented first for us. Recently he filmed scenes for his upcoming Amazon project in our place.

When Woody Allen first came to Caffe Vivaldi as a customer in the early 1990s, it perhaps reminded him of how the Village used to be in the old days – relaxed, casual and friendly ambiance that radiated positive energy. It attracted the likes of Andy Warhol, Bette Midler (celebrated her birthday by our fireplace in 1986), Joseph Brodsky (after being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1987, gave some his interviews to press at Caffe Vivaldi), Al Pacino (directed and shot his semi-autobiographical movie Chinese Coffee here).
