As the holiday shopping season intensifies, law enforcement across Central Ohio is preparing for a possible increase in car break-ins.

Franklin County Sheriff Detective-Sergeant Caleb Loposser noted, "We haven't quite seen the uptick yet, but we are bracing ourselves for that uptick."

With less than three weeks until Christmas, shoppers like Sara Rubino are taking precautions when buying her stocking stuffers.

"I do have some whoppers, you have a gummy lifesaver book, some Ghirardelli chocolate," Rubino said, explaining her strategy of hiding gifts inside her SUV to deter thieves. "I am going right to the house, and dropping them off," she added, emphasizing the importance of being "safe and aware of your surroundings."

However, not all shoppers are as vigilant. Madi Borton admitted, "It probably needs to be a bigger concern. I just throw it in there."
