Transportation agencies, together with innovators, acknowledge the needs of the commuting public by coming up with something new and helpful. LRT-2 passengers, here’s what you can rely on for a more convenient travel.

The Light Rail Transit Authority recently launched the Passenger Assist-Rail Display System or “PARDS” Project. The LRTA says that the PARDS project is exclusively designed by Trackmate Business Solutions, an all Filipino Technology company, for LRT-2 commuters at zero-cost. The innovation gives them real-time communication such as information on train arrival and departure, train location, news, public service and emergency announcements, and even entertainment, while on-board the train.

“Pwede rin siyang magamit ng ating LRTA para sa quick communication sa mga pasahero. Kung halimbawa, may emergency communication, or mayroon silang karagdagang announcements, or say government projects, pwede ho itong magamit sa sistema. At the same time, makikita mo talaga in real time yung actual na lokasyon mo habang nasa loob ka ng tren at 'yung mga susunod na destinasyon or next station.”

Aside from the installation of PARDS Dynamic across all train sets, there will also be a mobile application for LRTA and LRT-2 passengers that can be used to monitor train schedule and passenger flow on-the-go. As reported, the project also includes installation of a Command Center that allows LRTA to monitor train performance and the passenger flow with actual images in real-time.
According to the LRTA, the PARDS project will help create a seamless communication between LRT-2 and its passengers through various communication platforms. The LRTA also announces that they have successfully installed the CCTV cameras around the stations for a more ensured safety and convenience of the passengers, as well as the Free WIFI service. It has also been reported that the agency will come up with a “Train Academy” that will provide a source of railway experts that even the other countries could hire. The LRTA adds that it will help solve the shortage in train drivers and operators.

The agency says that aside from the innovations, the train system will also undergo modernization and upgrading to improve their service.

Reports say that the systematic replacement will commence in November of this year and will be completed in 2018.

With all the innovations, it’s safe to say that we are a step closer to having a better transportation system.
