8 Bit Sprites contains 135 chiptune Serum presets, 30 Serum wavetables, 15 Serum "noises", 16 new LFO shapes for instant lo-fi modulations, AND a pack of 25 original chiptune drum samples. Each patch has modwheel and velocity settings for expressive play, plus all 4 Macros assigned for maximized variation and automation options. I had a Commodore64 and a NES in the 80s, plus a Megadrive and Gameboy during the 90s. The distinct sounds of those old games evoke many happy memories. I set out to make a dream chiptune bank with a synth that best fits the project I had in mind. The result is a 100% royalty-free all-in-one solution for adding that videogame flavor into your tracks, whether you produce Chipmusic, Kawaii Bass, Trap, Hip Hop, or film and game audio.

Authentic retro videogame sounds are far more than simple square and noise waves. The Commodore 64 could do ring modulation and true PWM. The simple NES triangle waveform rang at a specific overtone due to the low fidelity rate, which became more obvious on lower notes. Even simple noise on many early 80s game systems had their own distinct color and character, especially when looped at audio rates to produce harsh musical notes. The WSG chip in Pac-man and other arcade machines used lo-fi digital waveforms along with audio-rate modulations. Then there were things like rudimentary "wavetable" tricks, rapid cycling arpeggios, lo-fi envelopes and LFOs with a "steppy" character, etc. Lastly, the 16-bit Megadrive (or Genesis) and arcade machines of the late 80s to early 90's used FM synthesis to produce a very different range of sounds than the 8-bit sound chips that came before them.
