When it comes to American Talk Show TV, there was one that would come to a lot of peoples minds. That show was called The Dr. Phil Show Premiering on September 16 2002, Dr Phil McGrath, a former psychologist, launched The Dr. Phil Show with backing from Oprah Winfrey, after gaining fame as a frequent guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show. It would go on to run for 21 seasons with 4445 episodes before its end in 2023 becoming one of the longest daytime talk shows in history. Even by its end, it was still very popular with viewers. At its peak its highest ratings were 6.7 million daily viewers per episode. Even at its end it still averaged just under 2 million which is still impressive. Dr Phil made some serious money too, earned $80–$90 million per year. INSANE. Unlike many hosts who rely on network salaries, he had a syndication deal that gave him a cut of advertising and distribution revenue.

But there were many claims from guests and staffers of the show that the producers, used and manipulate them to obtain views by twisted thier stories, as well as accusations of racism. Dr Phil would belittle and berate his guests with sheer smugness. He was not professional.

He is also has not renewed his psychology licence since 2006.

He has to be for me, the most overrated "shrink" on TV.

Does Dr Phil deserve this criticism?
