Crate Training a Puppie

Puppy, Nora, is trained to enter the crate using the word "crate".

When attempting to put the dog in the crate, start as close as possible to the crate.

Give the command "crate" while simultaneously pulling the dog toward the crate on the leash.

If the dog resists going into the crate, you can use your foot to slightly nudge her butt in to help her understand the goal.

Avoid using your hands to push the dog into the crate, if possible, because hands are associated with affection, and the goal is for the dog to enter the crate without associating it with affection.

If the dog is being resistant or "feisty" and doesn't want to go in, you can feed the leash through the top of the crate to gain extra leverage.

A dog may be confused and resist crating if it's not her normal crate time and she thinks it's playtime.
