Halo 4 is a first-person shooter developed by 343 Industries and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox 360 video game console. The fourth mainline installment and seventh overall in the Halo franchise, the game was released on November 6, 2012.

Halo 4 is the seventh installment in the Halo franchise. It is the sequel to Halo 3. Set four and a half years after the events of Halo 3, Halo 4 continues the story of John-117 and Cortana, left abandoned on the remains of the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn. The two survivors drift toward the mysterious world of Requiem and the ancient evil within. Halo 4 is the first game developed by 343 Industries, the management team in charge of the Halo franchise, and was published by Microsoft Studios. The first in a new series of Halo titles dubbed the Reclaimer Trilogy, turned-Reclaimer Saga, Halo 4 was released exclusively on the Xbox 360, worldwide on November 6, 2012.

Halo 4 was first revealed by a teaser trailer shown at Microsoft's E3 Media Briefing on June 6, 2011, set to arrive in the holiday of 2012. In the months leading into E3 2012, multiplayer for Halo 4 would be unveiled. The game would then get proper coverage during E3 2012, where a stage demo would be shown off, along with a trailer dubbed "The Commissioning", and the game's new co-operative experience, Spartan Ops.
