Should India talk to the new Pakistan govt? Imperfect peace is better than a crisis

Ever since the Balakot crisis, India’s rejected opening diplomatic dialogue with Pakistan. It isn’t hard to understand why: the road from the Lahore summit led on to Kargil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh got 26/11, and Prime Minister Modi, Pulwama. But past dialogue also helped ensure a ceasefire on the Line of Control, cutting infiltration into Kashmir, as well as a decline in terrorism. Even if India-Pakistan engagement sometimes seems pointless, it’s better than war.
