Kyanite is a typically blue aluminosilicate mineral, found in metamorphic pegmatites and sedimentary rock. It is the high pressure polymorph of andalucite and sillimanite those have common formula Al2SiO5 .

It is found in the schists and gneisses of regionally metamorphosed areas and less often in quartzite or eclogite. It is an important index minerals used by geologists to trace metamorphic rock.

Properties of Kyanite
Kyanite's typical habit is a bladed crystal and sometimes occurs as radiating masses of crystals. It is often associated with other metamorphic minerals such as garnet, staurolite, and corundum.

Kyanite is strongly anisotropic, this anisotropism can be considered an identifying measures, with its blue color. The presence of Kyanite in metamoephic rock generally indicates metamorphism deep in the earth crust.
