In 1954, at just 19 years old, Ifeajuna stunned the world in Vancouver, Canada, clearing 6 feet 8 inches (2.03m) in the high jump — a record-breaking leap that made him a symbol of hope across Africa. His face appeared on school exercise books, and he became a celebrated icon of Nigeria’s independence era.

But history took a darker turn. By 1966, Ifeajuna was part of Nigeria’s first military coup, accused of arresting Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Later, during the Nigerian Civil War, he joined the Biafran Army — only to be executed in 1967 after being accused of treason.

This is the story of a man caught between glory and tragedy, remembered as both a champion and a traitor. His life raises timeless questions about leadership, destiny, and the price of change.
