So, I've been in a almost 5 year relationship Long Distance.
In the end, it didn't work out, after some reflections, I can see what I did wrong and I hope these lessons serve you guys in some way.

The military culture is designed to be stressful physically, emotionally, and mentally. At the end of the day, all you want to do is to relax. When my girlfriend needed some emotional attention I just wasn't available. AND at the time, I didn't have a level of emotional mastery to understand control myself and communicate. I was always short to get angry.
Understanding that you day-to-day drains you and you need to be able to develop the skill to communicate that with your loved ones. Or else you'll be super frustrated and angry.

This is probably the biggest mistake - Having her adjust to my life. Being in the military, you have a very limited playing field, which is not an excuse. But I should've been able to communicate to understand what it is she truly wants out of life and give up the military If I needed to. Because I was so focused on my goals and what I could do within this box, I couldn't see the life outside.
Understand what your partner wants and really consider it.
