BRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - Money that should be helping local kids play football is missing.

Thousands of dollars have disappeared from the Bracken County Tigers Youth Football League. Members of the league’s board noticed in the last couple of weeks that the money they should have had wasn’t there.

"It's very unfortunate and it has affected us, but our parents are very supportive and the community is very supportive,” said Jessica Baessler.

Baessler is the board secretary for the Bracken County Tigers Youth Football League. She also has a son on one of the three league teams.

“We do have some outstanding bills that we thought were paid that are not paid, and that's our focus right now is just getting that taken care of and making sure that we're able to start back up next year,” said Baessler.

The missing money should’ve helped pay for equipment, concession supplies and field rentals among other costs. While the current loss won’t bankrupt the league, it does put them in a tough spot.

"This is for the kids and the kids are going to have a place to play and we're going to make sure of that,” said Baessler.

The Kentucky State Police are investigating the missing money. No charges have been filed at this point.
