Transcending barriers to nature with the Mojave Desert Land Trust

The Mojave Desert Land Trust hopes to inspire the next generation of desert advocates by providing resources for the community to transcend traditional barriers to accessing nature. By offering experiential learning labs in the field and in the classroom, MDLT helps students understand the desert in new ways while learning about its unique ecology.

We know that communities are stronger, more connected, and healthier when they have access to nature. We also know that access to nature is not equal. Barriers to accessing public lands in desert communities are rooted in economic and racial disparities, typically including transportation, outdoor safety, accessibility, and affordability of admission fees and outdoor gear.
