Plantago lanceolata flower opening

Описание к видео Plantago lanceolata flower opening

Plantago lanceolata opening their flowers.
I wanted to time-lapse some Plantago opening their flowers. In this genus the inflorescences bloom from bottom to top. First the style comes out. At that stage the petals are still closed. A few days later the flowers enter the male stage. They pop open and unfold their stamens very quickly (indoors as well as outdoors on the plant I observed flowers opening in less than a minute as well as flowers taking nearly one hour to open).
This opening turned out to be really challenging to film. I tried time lapses as well as realtime videos. I spent days trying to get good footage (slow openings in time lapse or quick openings in realtime), but I did not manage to obtain the perfect footage I hoped for. Nevertheless I decide to upload the best results I obtained so far (I don't think I will try this again soon) as it is still interesting and might help other people achieving better footages of this process.

Technical details:
The inflorescences were cut and put in water inside.
0:00 - 0:25: 1 second=30 min
0:25 - 0:33: 1 second=7.5 minutes
0:34 - 2:01: realtime

The flower stem must be fixed somehow, otherwise the heads move around way too much to be filmed properly.
