Exciting Run and Gun Bluefin Action, Cape Cod October 2021

Bill (BNZ) Neil and I fished with Mike (Dunston Dragons) and his friend Jeff. Bill, Mike and Jeff fished with Captain Matt from Tighten up Charters and Neil and I fished with Captain Josh from Outermost Angling. This was a butterfish bite which meant that tuna only surfaced for a few seconds, fed frantically then dove back down deep. Butterfish also mean slower retrieves are the key to catching tuna. Josh recommended Hogy Paddletails and also threw some mid sized siren lures. I also tried the Strategic Angler Proteus 100 in butterfish, the Pelagius 90 in chrome and black, a 3 ox castmaster and the Striker Tackle flatfall. The butterfish were super tiny, almost the size of a quarter. Neil and I were not able to catch any while Jeff caught his first tuna on a Siren Antidote in Butterfish and Mike reeled in one on a squidbar. This video shows you what run and gun fishing is all about! It is super adrenaline packed as you race from one flock of birds to another hoping for one magic cast that results in a hookup. Josh sometimes also likes to just wait near sitting flocks of birds and weedlines for the tuna to pop up. Although Neil and I did not catch a tuna, this was a pretty epic trip!

When we finish chasing these tuna and return back to Texas, it will be back to Striper fishing on Lake Texoma! Fall fishing and winter deadsticking on Texoma should be epic this year based on the fish that we are seeing! Get your boats ready and get your thumpers ordered and take a kid fishing when you can!
